I was trying to read the room from the beginning. Three couples arrive for therapy, the therapist is missing, and a stack of envelopes starts pushing the strangers into one another’s private lives. I knew something was off, but I did not guess where it was going.
The envelopes keep the room moving
The assignments give the film a simple structure and a steady source of tension. The couples interrupt, joke, resist and expose one another, and the sessions keep shifting from awkward to funny to painful. I could see Robert fighting the setup and trying to take control.
The ending changed what came before
The film’s final reveal caught me completely off guard. Once it landed, the earlier scenes took on a different weight. The suspense worked because I was busy trying to figure out what was wrong with the room while the purpose of the session stayed hidden.
A strong finish with heavy material
The final stretch is intense, and I am glad I went in without knowing where the story was headed. The reveal is the reason I am giving this five cups: it made the story’s strange rules and uncomfortable disclosures click into a larger purpose.
Final verdict
