A COMPANY OF THIEVES made me laugh. It throws a staged casino robbery, a would-be hero, a tech company takeover and a million-dollar Prince Albert into the same wild ride. The comedy is chaotic, surprising and very much my kind of strange.

Larry pays thieves to make him a hero

The setup is funny on its own: Larry hires a pair of thieves to rob his coworkers at a casino event so he can step in and save everyone. His plan works in a way he did not expect, turning him into a workplace hero and changing the balance at SmartTech.

One big idea needed more room

As the story moves into a more speculative tech subplot, I liked the ambition, but the thread was not developed clearly enough for all its turns to land. It sometimes pulls focus from the scrappy heist comedy.

Still a good time

The shifting plans, the thieves’ misadventures and the outrageous Prince Albert detour gave me real laughs. The movie is messy, bold and entertaining. I am at four cups because the comedy and the characters kept me laughing.

Final verdict

4 / 5 • Full Cup

A funny, chaotic heist comedy about a would-be hero, an oddball crew and one outrageous plan.
