WOODSTOCKERS is a television pilot, not a feature film, and it made me want to stay with its world. Lenny is older, worn down and carrying the consequences of a reckless life. The story is funny in places, but the sadness kept coming through.

The past never quite lets Lenny go

Lenny and his best friend Calvin went to Woodstock in 1969 to change the world, and they never left. More than fifty years later, a sudden death pushes Lenny to face the gap between the life he imagined and the life he actually built. His marriage has fallen apart, and he is trying to find his way back to his daughter.

A memorial gives the grief somewhere to land

The visit to the memorial and the appearance of Lenny’s old friend gave the story its emotional center for me. The line “This is not what I wanted” stayed with me because it cuts through the nostalgia and points to the cost of the life Lenny chose.

I want to see what comes next

There is room here for a full series: a cast of people with history, a community that never left the 1960s, and a main character who has to reckon with what time took from him. I could also imagine the story growing into a movie. I left wanting more.

Final verdict

5 / 5 • Whole Coffee Pot • Premium Pour

A melancholy pilot with a world and characters I want to spend more time with.
